From now until the next rainy season, the harvesting of thatching grass in the Uukwambi tribal area, has been given the green light by traditional authority.

Chief Herman Iipumbu, chairperson of the Uukwambi Authority, said after a meeting held in June, salt harvesting in the Uuvudhiya constituency, has also been approved.

He also said that the grass should be harvested so that the seeds can fall in the swamps. When the rain comes, it will start to germinate.

The grass is mostly used for thatching homesteads and the salt is for domestic consumption. It is also sold at markets.
