The new sorting and grading facility and ice plant at Hangana Seafoods was inaugurated on Wednesday by Bernhard Esau, Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources.

This new facility in Walvis Bay cost N$38 million and Hangana assured that this investment will definitely improve the utilisation of the vessel. Furthermore the quality of raw material will be maintained, catch rates will increase and the costs of logistics and ice will be reduced significantly.

Esau praised the business for its investment. Hangana has been growing from strength to strength over the past couple of years. They have upgraded their old systems and bought new equipment, expanding the business. By doing this, Esau said that this is a testimony that Hangana is serious about their business. The growth and expansion of Hangana also contributes to the GDP of Namibia, an admirable trait in any business.

Managing Director at Hangana Seafoods, Hendrik van der Westhuizen said that the new ice plant has the capacity to produce between 80 and 90 tonnes of flaked ice daily. The sorting and grading area can handle between 50 and 70 tonnes of headed and gutted raw materials. Hangana’s new by-catch facility also provides them with options on adding value to different species.
