The Cooked in Africa programme, which broadcasts on BBC Lifestyle, will be featuring beef from Namibia later this year.

The team from this cooking programme is currently in Namibia to shoot another episode. Cooked in Africa Films have shot nearly 100 episodes and 45 hours of programming during the past six years.

According to Monja Viljoen, Communication’s Officer of Meatco, it is produced in Namibia for Woolworths’ Summer Campaign. Meatco is the exclusive supplier of free-range beef to Woolworths South Africa. Their product will receive international coverage, Viljoen said. Woolworth’s campaign wants to portray good food messages to consumers, with the emphasis on free-range products.

It is illegal in Namibia to add hormones when rearing cattle and this is in line with the Farm-Assured Namibian (FAN) Meat scheme. Farmers, who are registered with FAN Meat scheme, should administer animal identification and keep record of animal movements.

Consumers worldwide are becoming more aware of the need for safe food, the Meat Board said. FAN Meat has been exported to Woolworths South Africa for three years now. The schemes software has been updated and a new phase of identification and tracing have been introduced with ear tags.
