After 10 years of true hospitality in the heart of Namibia, the Okahandja Country Hotel has turned over a new leaf and had its rooms fully refurbished.
All 24 rooms – 22 with twin beds and two family rooms – have undergone a refreshing facelift. The curtains have been replaced, mosquito nets have received new frames, the lamps now have new covers, and the old furniture has been replaced, with the beds and coffee tables now of dark wood. All the rooms are equipped with air-conditioning, ceiling fans, coffee-making stations, telephones and TVs.
The hotel is perfect for larger groups or special events, as there is ample space on the lawns around the traditional braai and swimming-pool area. The boma area can be booked for a spit braai, where fairy lights and traditional dancers create a special atmosphere. With two conference rooms, accommodating up to 80 and 130 people respectively, it is the perfect venue for corporate functions, and owners and managers Bianca and Ikus Conradie will organise team-building activities for groups. Perfect for events The smaller conference venue can be converted into a chapel for wedding ceremonies. The inside seating area of the restaurant, which has a dance floor, can accommodate up to 120 people and serves both à-la-carte and buffet meals. For guests looking for more of a bush feel, there are campsites situated on lawn, complete with electricity, braai and ablution facilities. The hotel offers bush dinners and braais in true Namibian fashion; a tour of historical graves; bird watching; and horse riding.
With its large green lawns, fishponds, thatched roofs, and attractive setting amongst old camel-thorn trees, the hotel invites you to wind down with a tender gemsbok steak and a cold beer. The Okahandja Country Hotel is situated two kilometres north of Namibia’s Garden Town, accessible from the B1. (MvR) www.okahandjalodge.com
