The Namibian Chefs Association (NCA) recently released its first-ever cookbook, What’s Cooking? The book – brainchild of one of the NCA members, Chantel Loteryman – comprises recipes submitted by Namibian chefs during various ‘chef of the year’ competitions. Says chairman, Terry Jenkinson, “I hope that this will be the first of many more books produced by the chefs of Namibia through the Namibian Chef’s Association.”
The book is written in an easy-to-understand, everyday language, and as an added bonus, all ingredients and recipes are 100% Namibian. “The book boasts a combination of recipes from housewives, moms, professional chefs and everyday people,” says Terry.
“Some of the recipes have been long forgotten, but through this book they are being re-lived. So every recipe should be a winner!” Mouth-watering recipes such as tomato soup with crispy parmesan; warthog fillet surprise with Kalahari truffle risotto and parmesan tuille; and honey nutty samoosas are just some of the dishes you can prepare to impress your dinner guests.
A portion of the sales will be donated to the Cancer Association of Namibia and the final section of the book is also dedicated to the recipes of the Bank Windhoek Cancer Apple Project. There are a limited number of books available, so make sure you buy one before they run out! What’s Cooking? is available through the NCA, the Cancer Association, and Demasius Publications at N$150 per book. Contact the NCA at: info@namchefs.com.na.
Formed in 1986, the Namibian Chefs Association promotes this profession and common interests such as Training, Boosting of Namibian Talent, Namibian Cuisine, and professional work ethics in all its ranks. (MvR)
