Kupferquelle Resort (01.04.2010)
Tsumeb's latest holiday resort

The name Kupferquelle (meaning copper fountain) is fitting for the only family resort in one of Namibia’s first copper mining towns. When the Hai||om Bushmen first found copper here and Tsumeb was proclaimed a town in 1905, little did they know that Kupferquelle would become an important tourism landmark in the northern region.

Halfway through Etosha

Situated midway between the Okaukuejo and Namutoni rest camps in the centre of Etosha National Park, Halali Rest Camp is set under large mopane trees, where the butterfly leaves lie scattered in copper patterns on the ground, long yellow winter grass blows in the wind and iridescent blue glossy starlings hop and swoop in between.

N/a’an ku sê Lodge and Wildlife Sanctuary (01.01.2010)
A support system for the San

N/a’an ku sê in the San languages means ‘God is watching over us’. It’s the name of a lodge, a convenient 45 km out of Windhoek, off the road to the Hosea Kutako International Airport. Incidentally, for a more Internet-friendly search, you can leave out the San characters, as will be done in this text, and its website is an even easier www.ecotourism-namibia.com, for reasons which will shortly be made clear. (It is not to be confused with the Windhoek city guest house of the same name and under the same management.)

Mushara Bush Camp (01.11.2009)
Child friendly and stylish

Travelling with their two children, Marc and Mariza Pampe realised that not only do many establishments not cater for children, but also that it is extremely expensive to travel with your family. Thus, the idea for the new ‘baby’ in the Mushara Collection was born, a child-friendly bush camp charging extremely low rates for children under twelve years of age and children under three staying free of charge.

Khowarib Lodge and Campsite (01.11.2009)
Happy days in Damaraland

Namibia offers its unique, rugged beauty to the adventure-hungry traveller in many ways, but the epiphany of this is most likely found in the deserted landscapes of Damaraland. Here, the skies are automatically set on fire as the sun disappears over the Etendeka (flat-topped) Mountains, elephant tracks form part of the gravel roads and hyaenas feast on the remainders of a lion kill. Natural springs make for permanent greenery amongst the greyish landscapes and giraffes lope across the road to test the greener mopane leaves on the other side.

The Shebeen, Etosha Safari Camp (01.11.2009)
The wackiest restaurant around

Guests dance around the fire to the beat of African music, while around them candles flicker and outdoor tables are cleared of the remains of supper. The chef drums in perfect harmony with the guitar player and a few waitresses join in, adding their Namibian rhythm. Manager Hilma Amutenya, dressed in her bright red-and-white Oshiwambo frock, is lured in for a dance, and when she returns to the table, she informs me that the joyful party atmosphere is a nightly occurrence at the camp.
