Travel News - Industry News - NTB launches new website

The Namibia Tourism Board (NTB) launched the first phase of its new website on 28 October after receiving funding from the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) through the Millennium Challenge Account Namibia (MCA Namibia).

According to Digu //Naobeb, CEO of NTB, the launch of the new website will promote Namibia as a tourism destination. “The tourism industry is important to the economy of the country and it is therefore vital to nurture this valuable asset,” he added.

As the only national tourism organisation, NTB is mandated to regulate the tourism industry by setting standards. “Our role is to listen, engage and provide grass-roots leadership and come up with constructive solutions,” //Naobeb said.

“The website is dyna-mic, interactive, simple to use and will act as a portal to market Namibia on the Internet,” said MCA Namibia Director, Dr Fanual Demas.

Service providers and industry partners are provided with their own microsite, promo-ting them throughout the site in many areas. Thus far 150 businesses are part of this initiative.

The main features of the website highlight details and features of the top visitor attractions, activities, community-based tourism aspects and an interactive planning map. “The NTB will continue to be innovative and come up with new products and ideas that add value to the industry,” //Naobeb added.

The second phase of the website is envisaged to be completed in 2011 and by April next year, the NTB will embrace E-marketing. “The NTB’s strategy is to grow with the change and look for ways to give Namibia’s tourism industry a competitive advantage through online marketing,” //Naobeb said.
According to Keith Sproule from the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the new website gives a visual stimulation on what Namibia can offer. (YN)
