Travel News - Industry News - NTB prepared for World Cup
During March, the NTB hosted a media event to supply the tourism sector with updates and progress made on WC2010 marketing initiatives. At the same event, a new interactive website was launched, aimed specifically at providing information on the World Cup 2010 soccer event and Namibia in general. “Our objective is to draw people into sport for tourism,” said Digu //Naobeb, CEO of NTB, at the event.
“The NTB is proud to have contributed to the marketing drive towards the WC2010 event. It should be noted that our main objective was not to bring teams to camp in Namibia, as it is not the inherent mandate of the NTB in terms of its establishing Act. Our main mandate is that of marketing.” He went on to explain that the NTB hosted a number of events such as the Dertour Academy and Knecht Reisen edutainment programme. The NTB also attended Soccerex events in 2008 and 2009, and developed partnerships with trade and media. Exhibitions were held during the Final Draw of WC2010 in Cape Town. “In South Africa particularly we looked at the branding of metro buses, radio programmes and mobile campaigns to bolster awareness about Namibia. We are about to finalise a DVD on Namibia with full-scale footage to be used by the media.” There are further ongoing events to bring decision-makers to Namibia during the Tourism Expo in June and to have a 4-week-long exhibition as part of the SADC village in Johannesburg during the actual event.
The website showcases a variety of affordable tours and packages by service providers such as tour operators, hotels and lodges. Moreover, the website offers fast facts and general information on Namibia, the latest news and updates on the World Cup event and a media gallery with videos and photos.
